I was driving around aimlessly (and, yes, a little lost) one day when I came across the surreal sight of two giant clown masks hanging on the side of a vibrant red house. The “clown compound,” as I now call it, is located in a residential part of West-Central Austin, TX, and I can’t get over how romantic it would be to permanently affix a modern sculpture like this to the side of your home. These fantastic clown sculptures hang above a three-car garage, so I’m not sure if the building is a residence, or if it’s some kind of artist commune or school. I’m going to cling to my hunch that it’s a home, however, so I can fantasize about what the clowns must look like to the children who live there. This way I can also dream up dozens of whimsical reasons why grown adults would hang clown heads outside their house; maybe the spouses first met each other at a circus, or maybe one of them has a fear of clowns and this is just a logical coping mechanism. The possibilities are endless…What fanciful backstory can you think up for this clown-capped garage?
