Talent and Responsibility

"Work With It" print by Work Is Not A Job

Responsibility is a blessing and a curse. On one hand it’s so nice to know that we’re the ones in control of what we do and do not accomplish with our lives, but, on the other, this is a rather heavy burden. Whenever I feel the weight of responsibility overpowering the liberation of it, I try to think about things one step at a time and this instantly eases the burden…I think about all the tiny things I have it within in my power to accomplish today and envision how these will one day add up to something pretty darn great. Whether this means scenes I write adding up to a movie or stories I share adding up to a happy relationship with my neighbors, I like knowing that the responsibility I take and the work I put forth have – at the very least – ripple effects in my craft and personal life. Yes indeed, all we need do is accept the call of responsibility and what we’re able to do with our talents and passions will be up to us. What will you do with your talent today? Create something new, innovate something old, or make someone smile?

Lovely entry. So the ripples reach across the water, space and time …today I left a present of assorted home-made food for a friend who has the flu, exchanged recipes with the Lebanese woman at the gas station while my car was inspected, ordered a book to learn, maybe, how to play an old alto sax, thought about a wonderful Passover meal shared last night with friends and all the great food (including a really good Tsimmes I had adapted) & company & good conversation, plugged away on progress reports for school, went for a long lovely misty walk with my dog, discovered that amonia is a super cleaner, played a new favorite CD (not Bob S. by the way) and reflected on the ones I love…it was a good day.

Ooh, it sounds like your day really was filled with the most beautiful of ripples, which have also rippled their way over into my day. How lovely.
