Weekend Wonders

Do you ever have those weeks when every ounce of you aches for Friday night? For me, these are usually the times when everything feels an inch off and nothing seems to be going my way; instead of perseverating on my problems, however, I always try to remind myself of the things I have to look forward to (à la “let me count the ways I love the upcoming weekend”)…

This often helps me power through set backs, and – funnily enough – it doesn’t take a grand event or vacation on the horizon to motivate me. A glimmering light at the end of the tunnel can be as simple as snuggling on the couch or taking a long drive to nowhere in particular, and these two activities are exactly what I’m looking forward to right now. Perhaps it is just the languid change of pace that’s able to make an ordinary weekend seem so sweet, or maybe it’s the promise of a reset button – of two whole days to regroup and set the stage for a fresh week ahead with no mistakes in it…What are you looking forward to this weekend? Work or play? Something simple or grandiose?

Psst: This photo makes me long to rent an airstream trailer, drive to the ocean, and hang a bunch of sandy, sea-soaked garments on a clothesline. I would do nothing but watch my clothes drip water onto the ground and sip Diet Pepsi until it was time to light up the night sky with a bonfire. Something about the snapshot’s composition and muted colors screams summertime calm, and it makes me happy every time I see it. Does it have the same effect on you?

I know the week before the big event is not a great time to suggest a movie from your pop sci fi genre, but have you seen John Sayles’ Brother from Another Planet? Haven’t seen it in a long time but liked it when I did. Saw it in the old orson welles movie theatre, great place, left to history. Have a wonderful time next week and forever more.xo, nancy k

Ooh, thanks for this recommendation, Nancy! I haven’t seen it, but I just checked and it’s on Instant Netflix. Having a pop-sci-fi marathon the weekend before my wedding is totally something I would do, so thanks for enabling me. 😉 Thank you so much for sharing this recommendation and your happy wedding wishes! xxoo
