Sweet Nothings

Bike basket holding a mannequin head – now that I’ve seen this, I can’t help thinking it’s what bike baskets are meant for instead of toting milk and bread

My birthday week was a very satisfying one, filled with productive work hours, phone calls from family, and some much-needed down time. Every day when I arrived home I forced myself to just breathe and relax (if only for a few minutes), and this made me aware of how important it is to make this kind of time for ourselves. I also realized how rare it is for me to actually make this time – to carve out moments in the day that are purely mine and solely about reflection, as opposed to about the imperative of moving from task 7,003 to task 7,004. Sure, there were other delightful oddities within the week that made it easy to relax and live in the moment, but I am going to be diligent from here on out about setting aside more time within each day to just be

Psst: In case inquiring minds want to know, some highlights of my birthday week included fresh-cut flowers, several days’ supply of cake balls and cupcakes in the fridge, and spotting this quirky mannequin-toting bike in my apartment complex. The foodie show-stopper of the week was a yummy dinner at Animal in West Hollywood, where my husband and I indulged in barbecue-pork-belly sandwiches plus a dish of biscuits and gravy topped with seared foie gras. All in all, it was a truly delicious week and I hope your Monday is off to a similarly delectable start. Leave a comment.

You know what, the beauty school down the street from my apartment uses heads like this for the students to practice on. I’m now wondering whether a teenager stole the head as a joke and made off with it in his/her bike basket. 😉
